Power restored to FirstEnergy customers in Cuyahoga County following substation outage

CLEVELAND- FirstEnergy confirms power has been fully restored to thousands of its customers in Cuyahoga County following a substation outage Friday night. Fairview Park and Rocky River were among the communities hardest hit.

The outage was concentrated within the west side of Cleveland and its inner western suburbs, with no other Northeast Ohio counties feeling the impact. At one point, the amount of people in the dark exceeded 25,000.

As of 8 a.m. Saturday morning, just over 500 customers were still without power in Cuyahoga County, with about 100 more affected customers across Lorain, Portage and Stark counties.
Communities hit hardest included Fairview Park and Rocky River, as well as cities like North Olmsted, Westlake, Bay Village, and even Cleveland proper. Officials had initially indicated some people could still be without electricity as late as 1:30 a.m. Saturday, but the situation had more or less been rectified by midnight.

Rocky River police tell 3News a substation outage was to blame for the blackout, which lasted multiple hours.
