Minister of Power apologies to Nigerians for recent nationwide electricity outages

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has extended a formal apology to Nigerians for the recent nationwide electricity outages, acknowledging the significant disruptions they have caused to households, businesses, schools, and industries.
He characterized the situation as a temporary issue and addressed the nation during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
In his remarks, he expressed empathy for the difficulties citizens are facing, especially during the sweltering heat of the dry season.
Adelabu assured the public that the Ministry is fully aware of the ongoing challenges and is actively working to resolve them.
He explained that the outages are primarily due to factors beyond the Ministry’s immediate control, including limited gas supply, critical pipeline maintenance, and financial constraints affecting power operators.
However, he reassured Nigerians that steps are being taken to tackle these issues, with improvements in electricity supply expected within two weeks.
As part of the solution, he detailed a series of interventions being implemented. These include forming a specialized committee to ensure that gas producers meet their domestic supply commitments and introducing revised financial frameworks to enhance gas delivery to power plants.
Additionally, key pipeline repairs are underway to bolster supply chain reliability. Adelabu also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to achieving its target of increasing electricity supply to 6,000 megawatts by the end of 2026.
He described the current challenges as part of a broader reform initiative aimed at securing long-term stability in power generation, transmission, and distribution. He expressed optimism that these efforts will yield measurable improvements by year-end.

In closing, Adelabu pledged to exceed prior benchmarks in power sector performance: “If we surpassed expectations in 2025, we are determined to deliver even greater results moving forward.”
His statement highlights the Federal Government’s commitment to resolving the nation’s energy challenges and implementing sustainable solutions for all Nigerians.
