TCN notifies Benin’s electricity consumers of scheduled disruptions, for the purpose of line upgrades

In order to allow the business to re-string the Benin-Ajaokuta 330kV line at Ihovbor, the management of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN Benin Region, has informed power customers in Benin City, UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba, and the surrounding areas of Ihovbor of the planned outage.

The business informed the public of “a scheduled outage on Benin–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line to permit ongoing restringing works at the Ihovbor Power Plant Turn-In/Turn-Out Transmission Substation” in the press release.

The restringing project will begin on Friday, February 27, 2026, and run every day from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

“The exercise is required to allow TCN’s contractor to proceed with the restringing work on the Ihovbor Power Plant’s 330kV transmission line. Additionally, because the transmission line crosses important roads along the Benin–Ajaokuta axis, the project necessitates brief power outages.

Throughout the construction time, road safety organizations will be on standby to ensure public safety after being formally alerted.

During the building phase, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to provide electricity to its clients in UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba, and the surrounding areas for up to ten hours every day.

“Please be aware that the impacted feeders will be restored following the daily suspension of restringing activities at 6:00 p.m. This implies that from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. the next day, BEDC will be allowed to off-take electricity to the aforementioned locations.

“TCN is sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
