Explosion occurs on Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline -NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) said an explosion occurred on the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline, near Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Coastal area of Delta State. This has disrupted operations leading to emergency response for immediate intervention Â
According to the source, the incident occurred around 4am, forced residents of the community to scamper for safety in the bushes when they discovered that the fire resulted from the explosion was advancing towards their residence.
The Escravos–Lagos pipeline, with capacity to pump 2.2 billion cubic feet per day, is a critical link in Nigeria’s gas network, feeding power plants and industrial users in western axis of Nigeria.
NNPC said Emergency response teams have been deployed and NNPC is working with authorities and local community leaders to assist for safety of lives and property.

It was gathered that the explosion was as a result of leaks from a gas pipeline in the community.
The source also informed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has already commence repair of damage on the facility for operations.
