 378MW Egbema Power Plant nears completion – FG

The federal government has revealed that the 378.3 megawatts (MW) Egbema power plant in Imo state is near completion, assuring the acceleration of the project. 

Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of  Power, who made this known over the weekend commended Hope Uzodinma, the State Governor, for his dedication to collaborating with Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to complete the critical power infrastructure projects.

According to the partners, the collaboration will ensure the completion of the 378.3 MW Egbema Power Plant, along with the 330/33kV switchyard, the Omoku-Egbema-Owerri-Alaoji 330kV DC transmission lines projects, and the Owerri transmission substation expansion project.  

“The projects are at various stages with the power plant at  70 percent completion stage.”

The Minister praised President Bola Tinubu for signing the 2023 Electricity Act, which allows states to participate in the electricity sector. 

Egbema is one of several National Integrated Power Projects, deemed “critical infrastructure in the generation, transmission, distribution and natural gas supply sub-sectors of the electric power value chain” by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Also speaking during a meeting with the Minister in the Government House, Uzodinma pledged to collaborate with the NDPHC to ensure the completion of the plant in order to improve the electricity supply in the State. 

The collaboration between the Imo State Government and NDPHC aims to enhance the electricity supply and energise homes and businesses in Imo State through the completion of the Egbema Power Plant and associated transmission infrastructure.
