From Megawatts to Medical Welfare: How Egbin Power Promotes Healthcare Access

Lagos, Nigeria: April 2, 2026

As Nigeria’s leading power generation company, Egbin Power does not only power homes and industries, but it also transforms lives through impactful healthcare interventions in its host communities and beyond.

For over a decade, particularly in the last 13 years, with a broader alignment with the
philosophy of Sahara Group, the GenCo has consistently demonstrated a str
commitment to Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR), with health-focused
initiatives at the core of its community engagement strategy.

At a time when healthcare delivery in Nigeria requires adequate support, the GenCo, located
in Ikorodu, has stepped in to bridge critical gaps by providing access to quality healthca
support to residents of its host communities, namely Egbin, Ijede, Ipakan, and other environs
in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Central to Egbin Power’s healthcare initiatives is its Annual Medical Outreach Programme, a
flagship intervention that has become a lifeline for thousands of residents.

Over the last eight years, the company has sustained this outreach, offering free and
comprehensive medical services ranging from cardiovascular screening, diabetes testing
and management, malaria treatment, eye care, dental services, arthritis care, blo
pressure monitoring and provision of medicated glasses to thousands of people who attend
the programme which is usually organised yearly as a 3-day activity across the host
communities.

How Egbin power promotes healthcare access: From megawatts to medical welfare

Beneficiaries in their testimonies confirmed receiving free medications, wellness kits,
glucometers, blood pressure monitors, and other essential healthcare tools after thorough
medical examinations by qualified professionals.

The success of these initiatives has been strengthened through partnerships with reputable
healthcare organisations, including Ceccy Health and Livewell Initiative. The
collaborations have enabled the delivery of high-quality, community-centred healthcare
services at scale.

These interventions are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3
(SDG 3), which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.
Egbin Power’s impact goes beyond periodic medical missions.

Through its PCSR platform, the company has implemented sustained healthcare support initiatives, including quarterly donation of medications to General Hospital Ijede; provision of medical consumables to primary Healthcare Centres in Ijede; continuous supply of free, uninterrupted electricity to
General Hospital Ijede for over 10 years and delivery of hospital-grade oxygen to healthcare
facilities within Ikorodu.

In a landmark intervention, Egbin Power collaborated with the Sahara Group Foundation in
2024 to donate a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to the General Hospital Ijede
—significantly boosting critical care capacity in the region.

The ICU project addressed longstanding challenges around access to emergency and
critical healthcare, reducing delays that previously resulted from the need to transport
patients over long distances.

Speaking during the handover of the ICU, the CEO, Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour,
emphasised that the donation was a testament to the company’s enduring commitment to
the development of the host communities, noting that the ICU would significantly enhance
the hospital’s capacity to provide critical care to those who need it most.

“At Egbin Power Plc, we believe that the strength of a community is reflected in the well-
being of its people. As one of the largest power generation companies in Nigeria, we have
always been committed not only to powering homes and industries but also to empowering
lives.

“Our commitment to community development does not end here. At Egbin Power Plc, we
will continue to seek out opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the society in which we
operate. Whether through health, education, or environmental sustainability initiatives, our
mission is to make a positive impact that resonates for generations to come,” Bounour said.

Dr. Olumuyiwa Balogun-Oluwa, the Chief Medical Director, General Hospital Ijede,
commended the collaboration of Sahara Group Foundation and Egbin Power Plc, which
gave birth to the donation of the ICU, noting the facility will serve people in Ikorodu
community and Lagos State at large.

“General Hospital Ijede has moved to the next level of healthcare, a level occupied by not
many general hospitals in the state, that is, a hospital with an ICU. We are grateful to the
Sahara Group Foundation and Egbin Power. The facility will be primarily used for the benefit
of the Ikorodu community and Lagos State in general,” Dr. Balogun-Oluwa had explained.

The impact of Egbin Power’s decade of healthcare interventions is best reflected in the
voices of beneficiaries and community leaders. From improved health awareness to access
to life-saving treatments, many beneficiaries expressed gratitude for services they would
otherwise struggle to afford. They commended the company’s unwavering dedication, noting that the initiative has brought much-needed healthcare closer to the people. High Chief Mustapha Lasisi, Baale of Ipakan, emphasised the long-term benefits of sustained health interventions, describing
them as essential to community well-being.

Felix Ofulue, Head of Corporate Communications and Branding at Egbin Power, while
commenting on the PCSR initiatives, said, “At Egbin Power, we believe that good health
essential to life. By providing access to healthcare, we are improving productivity and
strengthening the sustainability of our communities. Every individual deserves the
opportunity to thrive.”

Through its sustained healthcare interventions, GenCo continues to set a benchmark for
corporate responsibility in Nigeria’s power sector. By combining infrastructure support,
medical outreach, and strategic partnerships, the company is delivering measurable impact
where it matters most.

One thing is unique: as the GenCo continues to align its PCSR initiatives with global development goals, it is not only lighting homes, but also illuminating pathways to healthier, more resilient communities
