CSR: The FGN’s National Food Intervention (NFI) initiative aims to ensure sustainable access, availability, and affordability of quality food for all Nigerians, with the broader goal of Nigeria becoming a significant food provider globally. This involves addressing challenges in the agricultural value chain, promoting private sector participation, and stimulating food production. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to alleviate poverty, reduce malnutrition, and enhance living standards through increased access to resources and income. 

In support of the FG’s National Food Intervention programme, the Aliko Dangote Foundation has commenced the distribution of 40,000 bags of rice across the 20 local government areas in Ogun State, focusing mostly on people living with disabilities and other vulnerable in the State.

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun applauded Aliko Foundation while speaking at Abeokuta where they kick-started the distribution of the 40,000 bags of 10kg rice. Saying that the donation was part of the efforts to alleviate the hardship that people are facing.

During the event, the governor was represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He said that the Foundation has been collaborating with the state in many ways, including health, empowerment and security.

Governor Abiodun recalled the crucial roles played by the foundation during the Covid-19 Pandemic by providing critical infrastructures across the country, especially the company that specialized in research and diagnostic. He added that the Foundation has also been of tremendous support to the Ogun State security architecture with patrol vans, among other assistance.

He stated, ‘Everything is not about making money, it is important to let other corporate and government entity know about the social contributions they can implement in the communities where they uprate to make life more easier for the people around them, which must be consistent like Aliko Foundation and others.

Governor Abiodun cautioned against the sale of the food items, stating that anyone caught selling them would be sanctioned and that state will continue to monitor the distribution to ensure that the items get to the right people.  He also cautioned the market women not to sell the items, that the rice is meant to be given to the people free of charge.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mrs. Funmi Efuape, appreciated Dangote Foundation’s CSR for the regular support of the state government and the various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in and around its host communities.

Aliko Dangote’s Foundation Head of Operations, Victor Edero, in his remarks, the food intervention programme was meant to contribute to the federal government efforts on food security to Nigerians especially for people living with disabilities and the vulnerable.

According to him, the ADF contribution is to alleviate hunger and promote food security among vulnerable population in Nigeria.  Adding that the Foundation is partnering with the State Government to bring relief to the less privileged in society, insisting equitable distribution to all beneficiaries.

Mrs. Yemisi Abbas, the Iyaloja General of Ogun State, conveyed appreciations to the foundation for their regular identifying with host communities and the people generally.

The representatives of the Trade Council, People Living with Disabilities, Youth Council, thanked Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his generosity and praised the State Government for regular intervention in reducing people’s hardship especially those who were sent with bags of rice to their counterparts who are vulnerable.
