Shell: Nigeria needs to maintain the pace of its reforms, boost investment, and strengthen partnerships to ensure a prosperous energy future for its large population, stated Ronald Adams, Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company of Nigeria Limited (SNEPCo), during an event in Lagos over the weekend.

While delivering a keynote address at the Africa Energy Conference held by the Lagos Business School, Adams emphasized the need for regulatory clarity achieved through effective reform implementation. He highlighted the importance of maintaining investment attractiveness to facilitate projects transitioning more quickly from opportunities to actual production. He stressed the significance of collaboration among operators, regulators, NNPC Limited, and local communities to fully harness Nigeria’s resource potential.

Adams cited Nigeria’s huge oil and gas resources as an advantage but pointed out: “Resources alone do not guarantee prosperity. Prosperity comes when resources are matched with investment, technology, sound policy and disciplined execution. Success will be determined not by the size of our resources, but by our ability to convert them into investment and economic growth.”

Adams reaffirmed Shell’s commitment to supporting a sustainable energy future for Nigerians. He emphasized that Shell has been an integral part of Nigeria’s energy landscape for over six decades, working alongside partners to develop critical energy infrastructure, empower local businesses, nurture talent, and contribute to the nation’s economic progress.

Highlighting the success of the Bonga project, described it as a testament to the synergy of advanced technology, strategic partnerships, and Nigerian expertise in deepwater operations, with the next chapter unfolding through Bonga North. Urging all stakeholders to take action, stressing the urgency of staying competitive in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

He noted how advancements in technology, shifting capital flows, and intensifying competition are reshaping priorities and underscored the importance of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to enhance its competitiveness. According to him, the goal is to maintain this pace by turning reforms into actionable projects, translating projects into economic growth, and ensuring that growth leads to shared prosperity for all.
