Saudi Aramco Awards KBR Contract for Giant Marjan Oil Field

Oct 06, 2026

Saudi Aramco has awarded U.S. engineering giant KBR a new contract to support upgrades at the Marjan offshore oil and gas field in the Arabian Gulf.

Under the contract, KBR will provide engineering and project execution services covering offshore processing facilities, gas compression and power infrastructure. The work will primarily be carried out from KBR’s offices in Houston and Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

The upgrades are intended to help maintain production capacity following recent development of the giant field, while improving associated gas processing and the long-term performance of offshore infrastructure. KBR will also integrate automation, digital technologies and power-system enhancements into the facilities.

The latest award follows the completion of a major expansion of Marjan. Aramco confirmed earlier this year that its Marjan crude oil increment had started production, adding 300,000 barrels per day of capacity.

Marjan is closely linked to Aramco’s broader natural gas expansion. The Tanajib Gas Plant, part of the Marjan development program, began operations in December 2025 and is expected to process 2.6 billion standard cubic feet per day of raw gas from the Marjan and Zuluf fields.

Aramco originally awarded $18 billion worth of contracts for the combined Marjan and Berri expansion programs in 2019. The Marjan portion included a new offshore gas-oil separation plant, 24 offshore oil, gas and water-injection platforms, and expanded onshore processing infrastructure.

The latest KBR contract therefore shifts the focus from expanding Marjan toward maintaining and optimizing one of Saudi Arabia’s most important offshore producing assets.
