The Federal Government (FG) has said that the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu industrial corridor is losing ₦120 billion annually to energy theft.
Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, who announced the crackdown on Friday in Lagos, also said 100 megawatts of electricity transmitted along the corridor cannot be accounted for.
He initiated a prompt investigation, grounded in scientific principles, to examine the discrepancy between the electricity dispatched on the axis and the amounts billed and collected by distribution companies.
He explained that the probe will use metering data, load surveys and forensic audits to trace where the power is being lost or diverted.
Speaking at a meeting with industrial operators, regulators and other key players in the power sector, Tegbe said Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor has expanded rapidly into one of Nigeria’s primary industrial manufacturing hubs, serving major heavy consumers.
He also said enhanced visibility from technological monitoring tools deployed by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) exposed troubling loading anomalies and severe commercial losses across the network.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to industrial growth under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, he assured manufacturers of sustained power supply while maintaining that uninterrupted energy must be met with strict accountability and accurate billing.
He declared that the government will no longer tolerate meter tampering, deliberate data manipulation, or infrastructure interference, emphasizing that every consumer must remain accountable for actual power consumed.
He implored stakeholders to cooperate fully with technical investigators to eliminate revenue leakages and safeguard the financial stability of the national grid.
