Power Minister Commends Ikeja Electric’s Performance, Promises Enhanced Power Experience for Nigerians

The Honorable Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has commended the company’s noteworthy performance and pledged unwavering support towards improving the nation’s power landscape.

He made this known while visiting Ikeja Electric Plc on Thursday, March 14, 2024, marking a significant step towards addressing Nigeria’s power challenges.

During his visit, Minister Adelabu emphasised the crucial need for innovation and forward-thinking strategies to propel the power sector forward. He reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the persistent power issues that have plagued the nation in recent weeks, assuring stakeholders of imminent improvements.

Highlighting the ongoing efforts to address gas availability and associated liquidity constraints, the Minister outlined plans to enhance the sector’s downstream infrastructure, particularly focusing on Distribution Companies (Discos) to optimise existing grid capacity effectively.

“Investment in upstream infrastructure has historically dominated the discourse, while the downstream sector, especially Discos, has been neglected,” stated Minister Adelabu. “It is imperative to adopt a bottom-up approach to revitalise the sector and alleviate liquidity challenges.”

Encouraging industry operators to prioritise customer satisfaction and operational excellence, the Minister emphasised the correlation between enhanced power supply and consumer willingness to pay.

He inspected various facilities within Ikeja Electric’s premises, including the cutting-edge customer experience center, newly installed distribution transformers, and ongoing upgrades at the Alausa Transmission Injection substation by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

While commending Ikeja Electric for its commendable performance, Minister Adelabu emphasised that substantial strides are still required to illuminate every corner of Nigeria. He reiterated the nation’s collective expectation for heightened service delivery from power operators.

Assuring Nigerians that power shortages will soon be a relic of the past, Minister Adelabu stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to prioritise service delivery and ensure a brighter future for the nation.

“In unity and concerted action lies the key to overcoming our power challenges,” affirmed Minister Adelabu. “Together, we can deliver a reliable and efficient power supply that meets the needs of every Nigerian.”
